Every coffee shipment represents value, reputation and trust. At Commodity Centre Belgium, we’re making it easier than ever to protect all three with the launch of our new on-site OTA testing service for green coffee beans. This service is designed to give our customers greater control and added peace of mind.
What is OTA testing and why does it matter?
OTA stands for Ochratoxin A, a naturally occurring toxin that can develop in coffee beans if they are exposed to certain types of mould during harvesting, drying or storage. While it’s not something you can see just by looking at the beans, it can pose health risks if it is found present above safe limits.
OTA testing is a simple way to check whether coffee beans meet safety standards before they move further along the supply chain. By identifying any issues early, businesses can avoid costly problems at a later stage.
Protecting the value of your coffee
Coffee is a high-value commodity and quality is everything. If a batch is found to be contaminated, it can lead to rejected shipments, financial losses and damage to reputation. In some cases, it may even mean entire consignments cannot be sold.
By investing in OTA testing at origin or storage point, manufacturers and traders can reduce these risks significantly. It’s a proactive step that helps protect both product quality and business relationships.
A practical value-add for our customers
With OTA testing now available on-site at our Antwerp warehouse, customers can streamline their quality control processes without needing to move goods elsewhere for analysis. This saves time, reduces handling and adds an extra layer of confidence before distribution.
Wim Jacobs, Director of Commodity Centre Belgium says:
We’re always looking for ways to add real value for our customers. By introducing OTA testing into our own technical lab on-site, we’re making it easier for our clients to ensure their coffee meets the highest standards. It’s about reducing risk, giving them immediate peace of mind and supporting them at every stage of the supply chain.
