Protecting Our Environment

Three people stand beside a wooden fence in a rural field with a large solar farm in the background under a blue sky with scattered clouds. One person holds several brochures while the group smiles at the camera, highlighting a partnership between environmental conservation and renewable energy.

Protecting the environment is a responsibility we take seriously. Across our business, we're continually looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact through more sustainable operations, smarter use of resources and initiatives that help protect the natural world. Every step we take, however big or small, contributes to building a more sustainable future for our business, our customers and the communities in which we operate.

Supporting Our Local Wildlife Trust

Essex Wildlife Trust is the county's leading conservation charity, dedicated to protecting wildlife, inspiring a lifelong love of nature, and managing a network of nature reserves and discovery parks that provide outstanding outdoor education while preserving some of Essex's most treasured natural spaces.

Our partnership with Essex Wildlife Trust began in 2010, when Commodity Centre UK became a Corporate Member of the Trust. With our warehousing facilities located in a rural setting, we recognised the importance of giving something back to an organisation that works tirelessly to protect local wildlife, nature reserves and green spaces.

Today, CCUK is proud to be a Platinum Member of the Trust and continues to support its important work through a range of environmental initiatives. Our recent projects have complemented Essex Wildlife Trust's Nature Neighbours campaign, which encourages businesses and communities to create habitats that support pollinators across the county.

In 2025, we welcomed Grant Maton, Corporate Communications Officer, to our site to see the wildflower areas we had established around the perimeter of our property. Building on that success, in 2026 we planted numerous lavender plants to provide an even richer habitat for pollinators and other local wildlife.

Grant shares his enthusiasm for our efforts:

We're naturally delighted to hear the Commodity Centre team has embraced the concept of supporting pollinators with this initiative. Many of our insects feed on nectar so need flowering plants for their survival. As they travel from flower to flower, they also pollinate them, enabling them to set seed or bear fruit. The more flowering plants we can grow, the better for our wildlife.
