JDE UK & Ireland

JDE Coffee Case Study

JDE UK & Ireland was looking to partner with a sector specialist to optimise their UK supply chain, improve stock availability and reduce port costs.

Our Customer

JDE UK & Ireland is a subsidiary of JDE Peet’s, the world’s largest pure-play coffee and tea company. Serving around 4,500 cups of coffee or tea per second, JDE operates in more than 100 countries with a portfolio of over 50 brands, including Kenco, Douwe Egberts, Tassimo and L’OR in the UK and Ireland.

JDE UK & Ireland employs approximately 650 people across three sites in Hurley, Banbury and Dublin. In 2021, JDE Peet’s generated total sales of EUR 7 billion and employed more than 19,000 people globally.

The Opportunity

JDE UK & Ireland was looking to partner with a sector specialist to optimise their UK green coffee supply chain, while improving stock availability and reducing port costs.

The timing of the project coincided with the global pandemic in 2020, which meant the majority of work had to be delivered remotely. Effective supplier collaboration was key to enabling business continuity and achieving JDE’s wider goals.

Optimised Green Coffee Supply Chain

Our Solution

Commodity Centre’s team designed a customised process, using proprietary technology to manage and track the flow of inventory through various storage and handling facilities:

  • All incoming products could be landed and sampled before being reconfigured for agile storage
  • A combination of port-centric and full container handling supported by road and rail links
  • Inland storage warehousing used to transform container loads into manageable storage units prior to loading bespoke delivery modules
  • Enhanced supply chain visibility and custom reporting enabled accurate planning, while reducing operating costs.

Our collaborative, service-led approach led to a long-term contract agreement with JDE UK & Ireland, focused on delivering sustainable and efficient supply chain management.

The Results

  • Significant savings through reduced port detention and demurrage of containers with timely restitution and processing.
  • Real-time reporting of stock positions and quality checks enabled agile production planning
  • Delivery of a more robust and sustainable supply chain.
  • A trusted and forward-thinking supply chain partner in place

Impact

Today, Commodity Centre continues to work in close partnership with JDE UK & Ireland, delivering supply chain services that align with their expectations for quality, innovation and performance.

This collaboration showcases our ability to build flexible, intelligent logistics strategies for global food and beverage brands.
